That's an amazing list, Argosail! Shame you can't get it to show up on the site... Hopefully you'll figure it out; it really should be there!

As always, thanks for the time you obviously put into this!

Okay, got the links page up on the site with a new Lovecraft section. Apparently, I'm not allowed to link to Amazon.com pages (which was the only place I could find info on "Lazy Bear").

I have alao made some big updates to the atlas and "elements" pages.

Yes, all of the characters in ANY book written by Bram Stoker are firmly in the public domain in the United States.

However, Stoker's heirs did recently publish a sequel to Dracula. Any new characters in that book are not PD. If something new happens to one of the old characters, for example...Van Helsing gets a mohawk, then you probably don't want to give your version of Van Helsing a mohawk too.

There are a few characters in the above list that might be a little iffy, but 95 percent of them are firmly in the public domain, as long as you stick to the early novels (pre-1923 or written by an author who died in 1940 or earlier). The possible exception are works published in 1923 or later, which a publisher claims was a work for hire, which is true of some Robert E. Howard characters, but the burden of proof would be on them and to my knowledge, they have yet to produce paperwork that proves ownership of any of Howard's stories.
