Hi everyone, there's a new pinup of Fletcher Hanks' Stardust, The Super Wizard on The Beholder blog. It's in the category "Tribute", where you can also enjoy a loving rendition of Fantomah.
Cheers!

Another loving rendition, this time of AC Comics' FemForce, a series partially using redesigned Golden Age characters as well as new creations. The characters depicted are Synn ("The Girl From L.S.D."), Nightveil, and Miss Victory.
The Beholder Tributes to Public Domain / Open Source characters FemForce_Beholder

Nightveil is based on the Golden Age superhero Phantom Lady. Miss Victory originally created by artist Charles Quinlan and an unknown writer. Synn is an original creation of Paragon Comics / AC Comics.

Thanks very much! I'm glad you like them.
My site / blog is here:
http://cosmicbeholder.blogspot.com/

I serialized two comic series on it: Journey Into Misery and Tales To Behold, the latter of which features Jenny Everywhere.

Jenny Everywhere has the cult status I'd like a few of my characters to have. (Once I get them completed, or maybe just throw 'em up here and see what happens) lol

Well, she has been around for a while, so that helps. But yes, everybody hopes their characters will become popular…

PostSubject: Octobriana   The Beholder Tributes to Public Domain / Open Source characters EmptyThu Nov 22, 2012 5:01 am

Despite her questionable origin, I couldn't resist to draw her–
here is The Beholder's version of the Russian Revolutionary Beauty, Octobriana.

The Beholder Tributes to Public Domain / Open Source characters Beholder_Octobriana

Read more about here here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octobriana
What I don't like about the origin is that she is essentially stolen, from two artists who did all the original artwork. The resulting character however, and the colorful yarn that Sadecky spun surrounding it, is quite intriguing, though.

Another tribute to the @$$kicking ladies of the AC Comics Universe,
from the long-running FemForce comic series;
this time it's the resident weapons master and once team-leader, Colt:

http://cosmicbeholder.blogspot.com/2013/01/colt-from-ac-comics-femforce.html
(I don't think she is based on a PD Golden Age character, but many of her teammates are)

I never had a clue that her origin was a little shady. Good work on the art though.

Yes, the artists that created the artwork were screwed by Sadecki… But they did sue him at some point and won… something.
Still, the character is a lot of fun…

Glad you like my interpretation!

@The Beholder: Awesome, glad to see your rendition of Astro-Man. Happy to have had a hand in designing him. Hopefully he will be used some day. I am going to post your sketch of him on my Facebook page, I really like it. Nice work.

Also wanted to log in and state I hope to post some character files regarding my pending comic I hope to have out by late summer of this year. *fingers crossed* Just now started penciling and inking the character designs for purposes of the promotional character comic. The actual comic will be a different format, one used by Moonstone Books, a bit of a "prose" style. More of a booklet with illustrations instead of full-on sequential art because the story is rather involved and I am unable to properly letter.

If anyone has tips on programs or knows someone who IS a letterer, I'd appreciate it immensely. I have other comic books that will be more sequential and not as heavy on story but still plenty of action. So I am trying to find any input regarding lettering.

Hopefully I will post some art of the character files soon.

Glad to see this site still active, been away too long.

Ciao!

Glad you like my version of him! Sure, you can post him.

And good luck with your project(s)!

For any prose, I'd recommend not using a lettering font, something nicely legible and not too decorative.
For your more comic-ish projects I'd totally try handlettering, rather than some random comic-font. This way the art and lettering are more unified :-D
