Missing issues on DCM?

I want to say that I am extremely grateful to the kind souls who scan their old comics and post them on Digital Comics Museum. However, I'm beginning to wonder where some of the missing issues are. When I visit the PDSH Wiki, I sometimes see scans of characters from issues that do not appear to be posted on DCM. So, somebody tech savvy enough to scan the images has the comics, but they don't appear to be posted. Now, if they choose to post their comics or not is totally up to them, but I am wondering if there is a site I am missing where these comics are posted. I don't like to showcase characters on Free Universe until I've had a chance to read through their adventures myself. Is there somewhere online that I can find the appearances of these characters:


Blue Flame
He looks like a cool Human Torch type of character, and there are two pictures of him on PDSH, but his one appearance in Captain Flight #11, can not be found on DCM. I'm also looking for #8 with Yankee Girl.

Captain Atom
I would love to read his earliest adventures, but none of them are on DCM. Most issues of Space Adventures are on there, but it cuts off (conveniently) at #31, omitting his PD appearances in #33-41, 42.

Moon Girl
She looks like a cool Wonder Woman type of character, and there is at least two pictures of her online. According to PDSH, she has appeared in all of the following:

The Happy Houlihans #1
Animal Fables #7
Moon Girl and the Prince #1
Moon Girl #2-6
Moon Girl Fights Crime #7-8
A Moon, a Girl … Romance #9

However, none of these can be found on DCM.

Very cool looking character. There are 3 picutres of him on PDSH, from at least two different comics. However, while Keen Detective Funnies can be found on DCM, it is missing all of the issues in which he appears (Vol. 2 #3, 7-8, 19, 21-22)

While we're at it, does anyone know where I can find Master Comics #46, Silver Streak #13-14 or Key Ring Comics #1?

There aren't many Public Domain Golden Age comics that don't make their way to DCM. Members have even grabbed scans from torrents and uploaded various books to DCM, so if it's "out there", DCM most likely has it or will have it soon. If they don't carry a book, there is usually a reason why the administrators decided against it.

My guess is that the two images of Blue Flame on PDSH appear to have been taken from AC Comics' "Official Golden-Age Hero & Heroine Directory" and colored for the wiki entry. I'd have to dig out my copy of that book, but I'm pretty sure that's where those images are coming from.

DCM made the decision to err on the side of caution and will not host appearances of Charlton's "Action Hero Line", even though most (if not all) of their appearances seem to be Public Domain. Their decision is mostly due to the fact that DC Comics claims ownership of the characters. However, scans of the books are out there somewhere on the 'net.

diversionsofthegroovykind.blogspot has at least on story posted for Captain Atom, along with some other Charlton stuff. I'm sure some serious online searching would turn-up more blogs & the like where stories are posted.

There were two sites I saw that made the scans of Captain Atoms' adventures available to anyone, but they both got shutdown several months ago due to the fact that they also carried a lot of Copyrighted material (such as Spider-Man, Batman & Spawn comics). One of the sites received a lot of press when it got shutdown, but the other one wasn't much more than a blog with links to comic files (so there's a chance those files are still available somewhere).

DCM made the decision to not host ANY EC Comics, including the Public Domain appearances by Moon Girl, because the majority of the company's output has valid Copyrights. I know the first five issues of "Moon Girl" (at least) are out there on the 'net somewhere (probably in a torrent), so you might have to do a search to find them.

Check again. DCM has KDF 19 & 21. He was only in costume for his last two appearances in issues 21 & 22. The issues are listed out of order due to the weird numbering system the title had during its run, so maybe you just overlooked them.

Thanks for the "heads up" bchat, because I have (somewhere) a beat-to-hell copy of the Moon Girl book that someone came across and gave me because they knew I collected comics. I thought I might scan it in for DCM one of these days, but now I know that there's no point.

If I ever do get it scanned in, Argosail, would you like me to e-mail you a copy? Or maybe I can post a link to it here?

Bard, you lucky dog! Some people don't know what they have. Heck, yeah, you can post a link on this site! If DCM won't host the EC books, it would be great to have links here (I believe it was confirmed that the Moon Girl books were not renewed). Beat to hell or not, I'd love to see at least one of the stories. Seems like a great character, but I am reluctant to make profiles for characters when I only have second hand knowledge of them.

I have done searches for Moon Girl #1, and I saw links to "torrents" but I'm not sure what those are or how they work. The links I've seen on google go to a page where the issues are listed, but there are no active links, so I don't know what the deal is. I'll have to look it up again and see if I can figure it out.

Just because DCM decides they won't carry a Public Domain book doesn't mean it shouldn't be scanned & shared somewhere. DCM has a guideline for what they're willing to host, but that shouldn't stop anyone else from sharing what they legally can.

Well, I'm sure I still have a lot to learn, but I appreciate the compliment. The bulk of my "knowledge" has come from reading (and re-reading) the actual US Copyright and Trademark laws, because the reality is that, no matter how intelligent someone may appear to be, it's real easy for a person to misread or misinterpret what's written in the laws.

Yep, I'm a member of DCM, along with its sister site, GAUK aka goldenagecomics.co.uk. I've been involved with both sites for about three years now, and I have been able to read a ton of stories it would take a fortune to get my hands on otherwise. The idea of sharing scans of Golden Age comics even inspired me to go in another direction by scanning & sharing files of humor digest books from the 1940s & '50s, which can be found here. When it comes to something getting little-to-no respect, comic books have nothing on humor digests!

Torrents are something I didn't know much about until recently. Basically, you need a "torrent program" before you can do anything. The idea of torrents (as I understand it) is that the files are hosted on various personal computers rather than a dedicated website (such as DCM or any file sharing site). When you download a file, you're actually getting it from someone else's pc, while at the same time other users are downloading the same exact file from your pc. Again, from what I understand, it's as if you're downloading Part A of a file while someone else downloads Part B and a third download's Part C. From there, you're downloading Parts B & C from the other two computers while everyone else downloads Part A from your pc. It's a little overly complicated, but I think that's the point of it, since the bulk of the material that's shared this way is under Copyright. If it was hosted in one place, like a dedicated site or something along the lines of Rapidshare, it would be easy enough for the Copyright Holders to shut everything down.
I skipped a few steps, but that's the basic idea of it.

On Pappy's Golden Age Comics blog, you can find Moon Girl's first appearance taken from Animal Fables # 7, plus a story from Moon Girl # 3. LINK: Pappy's.

Plenty of original artwork featuring Moon Girl, including a few complete sotries, can be found by searching the "Past Auction Archive" at Heritage Auction Galleries.
