| Pretty sure it's because DC owns everything past the original. | |

| Go to www.digitalcomicmuseum.com and download MLJ and Quality comics there. Anything you see in those comics can be used in new stories, including all the characters. Those comics contain the original versions of characters like The Shield and Plastic Man... | |

| I've read that AC was sued by DC over their version of Phantom Lady, though. AC backed down and changed the name of the character so it never went to court. Do you think if they did they could've won or does DC really have ownership over those characters? | |

Actually, I heard it was the other way around. DC sent AC comics a "cease and desist" notice. AC said, "No problem, just show us proof that you own the characters." DC said, "See you in court." But DC is owned by Warner Brothers. AC is owned by a guy named Bill Black. Who do you think had more money to keep paying lawyers? AC basically backed down because even thought they were sure they had the law on their side (and they very possibly could have won), they just couldn't afford to keep the case going as long as DC could.

Yeah, that's the impression I got. It was just corporate bullying at its finest. "We have more money and better lawyers than you, so we can claim ownership over something that belongs to everyone." Ridiculous...
