So, has anyone else been reading Dynamite Entertainment's Masks? Ever since the fiasco of "the New 52," I've given up on DC and Dynamite has become my go-to comic company. And Masks has been a great read so far.
The plot is a rip-off of The Spider "Black Police" trilogy: Under the cover of the political force called "The Justice Party," criminals use various means to take control of the governments of New York City and New York State. They create a new "police force" comprised of former crooks and begin to shake down the common people for as much money as they can, beating and arresting anyone who can't pay these new "taxes."
Standing against these forces are a slowly gathering team of heroes. So far, the majority of the work has been done by The Spider, the Shadow, Green Hornet and Kato. Miss Fury and the Green Lama have just been introduced. A Mexican American artist with the last name "Vega" (who was shown carrying a portfolio containing a picture of Zorro and who, I assume, will take up the mantle of his ancestor) has teamed up with crusading DA Tony Quinn, who has just been blinded by acid.
Even though I just read the original "Black Police" trilogy just last year, I'm really enjoying this reimagining of the storyline with the addition of all these other great characters. I think it's supposed to run 6 or 8 issues, and I can't wait until the next one comes out!
