The Jersey Devil

So, this is an idea I've had for a little while, might be a little more light-hearted than some other stuff.

For those who don't know, the Jersey Devil is a legendary creature/ urban myth

However, my version is a little different- imagine a Jersey Shore Guido-type, partying and working out at the gym. Then he finds out that his father was actually a demon of some sorts, and he begins to manifest powers. He can switch form from normal human, to red skin, black hair, glowing yellow eyes, and the ability to have flaming hands. He has enhanced strength and resilience in his devil form, and is impervious to fire in either form. He starts off quite self-centred, but over time turns into a proper hero.

haha nice. I've actually been working on a cheesy sci fi movie pitch with the Jersey Devil eating a bunch of Jersey shore kids.

Interesting. It's a great name to play with. I once toyed with a pulp-style character who fought crime as The Jersey Devil, and a different supernatural take on the character as the guardian to a group of kids.

It really is a great character to play with. There's this sort of supernatural background to all of South Jersey, especially in the Pine Barrens. It's weird a lot of people I know honestly want to leave the area because they feel some kind of bizarre soul sucking force that just depresses everyone. I've been toying around with a larger story for a few years, connecting all the dots: Jersey Devil, Weird NJ, the Blue Hole, the early eugenics studies in local mental asylums. It's just a really dark place, like Lovecraft Country, and not a lot of people acknowledge it.

Having some dimensional nexus or something like the Hellmouth from Buffy in New Jersey could be pretty cool.

Funny; I live in Northern NJ and used to drive down to Wildwood every year, and although I wouldn't describe it as a "soul sucking force," I could always tell when I hit the Pine Barrens because it just "felt" different somehow.

I once toyed with the idea of a story stringing together all the strange stuff from NJ ... and don't forget the Hindenburg disaster and Orson Wells' War of the Worlds Martian invasion!

I live in Atlantic City and I half jokingly believe that they sold the city to Mammon when then brought in the casinos.
