Flux - new open source character

Hey guys here's a new character called Flux that I would like to enter in to the open source domain.

She was originally a part of Flux and Whammy - being that her younger brother was a guitar player and their surname was Barr (Whammy Barr).

They were given superpowers when Dr Tinkerman's lab exploded as he was building a time machine. The pair ended up with abilities to travel through space and time. Flux can slow time down and Whammy can speed it up.

Tinkerman has a robot girfriend called Anne Droid and a robot army led by Boombox.

Wow! That character looks really fun. Did you do the artwork?

I wish I could draw like that! In fact I wish I could draw! This was done by Steven Howard of UNICO comics - a small press publisher based here in the North of England.

The character looks/sounds great, but a few questions:

1. Are you making the whole group of characters open source? Flux, Whammy, the doctor Anne Droid and Boom Box?

2. Did you design the physcial appearance of Flux? If Steve Howard designed her physcial appearance without your input, then he is technically a co-creator, and we either need his permission to use the design, or we need to re-design her.

3. I know you are working on a Cosmic Custodian comic...will Flux also be appearing in a comic?

I suppose if you comissioned the work, it could possibly be considered a work for hire, but I'm not 100% certain of the legal ramnifications...I hope we can use that design because the pink fire is pretty cool looking.

Yes the whole group of characters are to be used if you wish.

Steven did the appearance based on my specifications - he has no co-creator ties. This was a favour as a friend.

I created this a while ago and never got round to using them so thought it only fair that I give others the chance to use her seeing as the art was so cool.

The Cosmic Cusotdian project I'm working will be more of an illustrated novella.

Well, that is excellent news, she has a very cool design, and I for one would love to try drawing her. Do you have any visual descriptions for the other characters...if you have no art skill, u might try doing what Yzz does...create micro heroes (they are based on pre-existing templates)...that way you can SHOW us what your characters look like...

Any plans to include Flux in the Cosmic Custodian stories...

Like u I have some characters I've never used which I will be donating to free license use (I think we all have characters we've created but never had good opporunity to use)....

I just want to give some of these characaters a first appearance in a story...with all the cool characters being introduced on these forums, I may have to dedicate a series to introducing them all...

I envisioned Whammy looking similar to a character called Invincible

Anne Droid (or I might have spelled it D'Royd!) looks like a sexy school mistress, short tight skirts, hair pulled back in a bun, ponytail.

I had an idea that Tinkerman would be very small with a big head, ugly looking.

No plans for any of them to appear in any comics, stories at the moment so they are a blank canvas.

Indeed. I've got alot of custom modded templates if you want to use them. Or I can make something based on your descriptions.

Flux is quite intresting, as is Anne Droid/D'Royd.

Flux looks like an intriguing character. She might make a good addition to the Peacemakers, assuming anyone other than me cares about that anymore--it would be nice if they had more than one woman.

A couple questions that might be worth considering:

1. Why does Flux have a lightning bolt-based design when she doesn't have energy powers?

2. What's her first name?

3. Can Flux and Whammy teleport through time and space individually or does they have to sync up,, Wonder Twin-style?

4. What are the limits of her powers?

5. What use are Wammy's powers in combat? Being able to slow down time would be extremely useful, in that it would enable you to move faster than your enemies, but wouldn't speeding up time the reverse?

6. Would moving faster than the world around her cause Flux to age faster if she used her powers frequently? Or is she somehow immune to aging when she's using her powers?

Also, do you have a larger version of that picture?

You read my mind about her becoming a new member of the Peacemakers...I was even thinking about her and Wammy being the "wonder twins" of the group. I still don't think Jenny is powerful enough to be an official member, so we definitely need more females in the group. Now that the group is a little more rounded, I am thinking of doing a Peacemakers comic, starting with Astro, Outworlder, Jenny and Flux...

Right now I'm in the process of writing a series of short stories around the core Peacemakers and associated characters, including a new one (as soon as I can think of a good name for her).

Will the new girl be open source or is she specific to your universe? I might be able to help with the name...

Good questions indeed and the answers are....

1. I don't think they are lightning bolts on the suit it's just the design

2. Her first name was Janey

3. They can work as separate entities or team up to enhance their powers

4. Didn't think that far ahead

5. Whammy can surround himself in a 'bubble' so speeding up time enables him to move at superspeed while everyone else 'stands still'

6. Didn't think about that one either...

I will be writing up an article on Flux on the PDSH wiki soon, as well as a few other Peacemaker 'verse (Earth-442-Aleph) elements. I'm not sure about the name "Janey" in this context, since she'd be often working alongside someone named Jenny.

As for the new character, she is a part of the open-source universe of sorts I've been trying to build for a while, and I've decided her name is Starfall. I doubt one would call her a "girl," though...

Feel free to change her civillian name - nothing was set in stone. It's a character that just kicked around in my file for a while and I thought she deserved to be put to use
