M F Enterprises Captain marvel - can anyone help with recreation art please?

I am looking at revamping this character and would like some help from an artist to recreate to a more modern look.

Can anyone help me please?

I can try and visualize some stuff for you. I am an amateur artist but

it might at least get you on your way until a professional can take over.




Do you have any initial thoughts on what you want Captain Marvel to

look like?

Hey Ten Cent, thanks fo the reply. I was hoping to update the character, for the suit, rather than the pinky coloured uniform, perhaps a blue or black leather type suit (think x-men movie.) I'm also looking at changing the name - I have one but I'm keeping it under wraps for now

You know, so many characters these days are going with black/dark colored leather outfits. I guess it kinda makes sense for a more human vigilante or soldier who needs the protection of stealth, but for the sake of visual diversity, I would reserve the more bright and distinctive colors for those characters that are so powerful, they can walk into a room and be like, "yeah, I'm here...watcha gonna do about it punk?" As an alien android with bizarre powers, I imagine this Captain Marvel dosen't need stealth. I am imagining him as sort of scary and cyborg-alien looking. I'm thinking, keep the pink/purple color scheme, but make his suit look like over-exagerated muscle tissue without skin. Make his hero identity reveal a bit of his inhuman nature...it will make him look more scary, interesting and unique.

To update his powers, I'd say that his whole body is made up of nanobots, giving him more control over his body, but I'd say his head is just one piece...preventing him from taking on an uncharacteristic disguise ability.

Cool. I will try to work up some images as soon as I can. I will start with something subtle(movie X-men motorcycle gear).

I will also try to do some other designs. His name is changing, that is good. Are his powers the same? His origin? Is his origin

copyrighted by DC? I thought that Marvel has the name Captain Marvel trademarked or copyrighted.

DC has never owned the MF Enterprises character...it is totally orphaned. It has little to do with the "big red cheese" Shazam character, except they have the same name.

Marvel currently owns the trademark on the name, but it doesn't really matter if transmooky changes it anyway.

Let's have some fun with the suit then, Ten Cent, and see what we can come up with.

Nice idea with the nanobots, Argo, I have come up with something similar to update him.

I attempted to do a different costume design with two different color schemes. The first one
is the Captain's traditional colors. The second is a monochromatic darker scheme.

It may not be even close to what you were hoping for but it was fun for me.

Wow, nice artwork! You're actually quite good. Love the coloring, and the costume design is quite original and cool looking.

One minor criticism for you though...based on the color scheme of the first one and the big barrel chest and dark hair, I'm guessing you were basing this on the original Shazam/Billy Batson character. MF Enterprises created a TOTALLY different character named Captain Marvel (who is PD), and that's the one transmooky wanted to redesign. This costume could work, but the original colors were actually red and a pinkish purple...

I did try and put a picture of the MF Enterprises character on here but I've just noticed it is a red cross in a white box.

I'm not sure which one I like better but it will certainly spur me on to write the character.

I am writing for a new magazine and have three PD characters lined up to try and re-invent.

The one you are re-vamping looks way more fun and cool. Are you going for the same fun

feel as the the 1966 one?

Transmooky, if you want the images you should be able to right click and "save as".

I love ten cent's work, but here is more along the lines of what I was thinking for the characters redesign:



With this version of the character, the armor is made of nanobots which can take any shape, allowing "The Marvel" to form weapons and repair his own armor (regeneration). I kept the original color scheme 'cause it makes him look unique, but I think I've made him look a lot more scary, alien and robotic.

How about you just change the colours on your design Ten Cent, I like the designs done by you both but Argo has declared his PD and I want to keep mine separate while I'm working on it for the magazine.

Ok so I started writing The Marvel based on M F Enterprises version, but I just wondered - Ten Cent did a fantastic version of Fawcett Captain Marvel in a an earlier post on this thread - do you think I could use that red and yellow version - maybe have him derive powers from Roman Gods - and shout an amalgam of their names to turn in to Captain Marvel. I'm a little unclear as to what I can and cannot do with this character - I doubt DC would sue me anyway as it would just fall in to the realm of fan fiction surely?

First of all, I was behind in this thread, so I just saw the artwork/redesigns, and loved them all!

Now, Transmooky, we discussed the Billy Batson version of Captain Marvel over on page 2 of the "The Trademarked Name Game" thread in the "Legal Questions and Debate" board. As I understand it, you can use the concept due to lack of copyright renewal, but DC's got trademarks that mean that you can't use the name "Captain Marvel," "Billy Batson," or the word "Shazam!" So, in essence, you'd be creating a new pastiche character of the Big Red Cheese. I suggest you check out that thread for some of the idea we came up with for names and magic words. Hopefully something there will click with you!

It's an important distinction, because DC still calls Captain Marvel, Captain Marvel in comics, cartoons and video games (in DC vs. Mortal Kombat, Captain Marvel is the name that shows up under his health bar). Even the herclix action figure has the name Captain Marvel printed on it (Heroclix are blind purchase). But Marvel owns that name! You ABSOLUTELY can use that name, and the names Billy Batson and the word Shazam! within a story...just not on a cover or in an ad. You don't need to change the character at all, he's public domain. To me, this is a little bit like saying, let's change Santa Claus into "Snow Elf" and give him a red leather jacket instead of his usual outfit, because Tim Allen might sue us. He might, but he won't win....

I stand corrected! Honestly, every time I think I have a handle on this legal stuff, I find out I'm wrong! That's one of the reasons why, for the most part, I prefer the characters who haven't been published since their original appearances!

Well I'm going to use both versions of Captain Marvel above - makes sense to alter the costumes a little to distinguish them from others but hey I can use, SHAZAM!, in a story - COOL!!!

He grinned as he thought back to his own childhood friend, The Marvel. Many thought that Marvel was a figment of Braxton’s imagination, but he knew better.

The Marvel had been a hero back in the sixties, an android from a doomed planet that had made Earth home.

Young William and his amazing friend had had some fantastic adventures and yet as time and technology moved on, The Marvel became outdated and useless in fights against more gadget-developed criminals.

The Marvel had retired from crime fighting in the early seventies and disappeared.

Braxton had, of course, gone on with his life, went to college, got a job, met a girl and started a family. He never forgot those times with The Marvel though.
