Hi team, I wanted to find out if any of our expert snoopers was able to find out whether these comics are possibly in the public domain? Issue 1 was published in 1940, and by my understanding that means it should have been renewed in 1966/67. However, the only reference to these being renewed, with my admittedly not fantastic investigative skills, is this entry:
Daring Mystery Comics: "consult copyright office"; see 1969; first cataloged renewal for January 1940 (v. 1 no. 1) in 1977 Jul-Dec
If they were first cataloged in 1977 then wouldn't this make them public domain, having passed the renewal period? I am somewhat concerned about the reference to 1969 though, but I'm not sure how to find renewal records for 66-67 and check through them for this comic.
